Paul Robeson Galleries is pleased to participate in SUMMER FRIDAY: SPICE.  Join us on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 5 to 11 p.m for an evening of food, culture, and music.

 

5PM | THE SPICE TOUR with Keary Rosen
Keary Rosen of Form Design Studio and Lab invites you to the SUMMER FRIDAY SPICE TOUR for an inside look at the 3D printing lab and a peek into the world of 3D printed food. This tour is in conjunction with Paul Robeson Galleries’ Feast & Famine. RSVP HERE

6:15PM| FEAST AND FAMINE Self Guided Tour at Paul Robeson Galleries
Feast & Famine explores food as a social, political, and bodily phenomenon. The exhibition considers food as a commodity; the relationship between food, death, sex, and the abject; food’s relationship to global economics and geo-politics; food and its likeness as a medium for artistic experimentation; the food chain and the environmental impacts of food production; and food justice. Feast & Famine gathers together works in a variety of media from artists and artist collectives working nationally and internationally, at different stages in their career.

6:30PM | FEMALES OCCUPYING SPACE presented by Paul Robeson Galleries
Join us for performances featuring Females Occupying Space. This multi-artist performance and talk highlights the practices of four local artists of color: Dominique Duroseau, Ayana Evans, Lisette Morel, and Mary Valverde.

These performances will take place simultaneously throughout the Hahnes Building.

6:30PM | SPICE UP YOUR LIFE: A Food Tasting Experience with Jamie Bruno, Karen Florez, Chef Bo Pedersen, and fayemi shakur
“Spice Up Your Life”, is riveting conversation on food and wellness exploring the intersections of art, culture, economic development and displacement all through the lens of food. Writer, cultural critic, and curator, fayemi shakur will be moderating this discussion with food enthusiasts Jamie Bruno, Karen Florez, and Chef Bo Pedersen. 7:15PM & 9:30PM | DJ LotusMoon
LotusMoon is a New York-based DJ whose art-making is interested in engaging with the multi-dimensional threads, narratives, and histories, that run through African Diasporic experiences. Through music, drawing heavily from Afro-Caribbean roots and upbringing in Harlem, she hopes to cultivate and foster a space of resistance and transcendence that centers the bodies of womxn + femmes + qtpoc globally. A space for us to fully be.

8:30PM | Jasmine Mans
An author, performer, poet, teacher…yes to all of those titles, but more importantly Jasmine Mans is an artist…an artist who enjoys having various forums to express her thoughts, moods, opinions and a voice to speak out on behalf of others and the community around her. A recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison (2014), Jasmine received her BA in African-American Studies (Black Theory & Literature) and is the recipient of the Star-Ledger – NJPAC; Arts Millennia; and (New York) Knicks Poetry Slam Scholarships and awards. However, Mans began stringing rhymes together as a middle-school student in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Those artistic skills were honed while attending the first performing arts high school in the nation, Newark Arts High School.
