John Gavin White: Big Black Good Man

Thursday, 03/28/2024

Portrait of John Gavin White in his studio.

John Gavin White will read from writing created during his residency. Immediately afterwards, he will engage in conversation with Tehsuan Glover.
Inspired by writer Richard Wright’s short story, “Big Black Good Man,” during his residency White has created new work “…centered in the intersection of the poetic as a lived philosophy, and the radicalized notion of black male self-recovery in the U.S. The poetic is a philosophy that frames ant attempt at the unified treatment of emotion, logic, language and thought against the backdrop of oppression.”
Glover is the founder of The Newark Times. The Newark Times is dedicated to sharing the perspectives and narratives of Newark’s history, emergence, challenges, and triumphs with dignity, honesty, and candor.
