The Program

Kevin Blythe Sampson was an American artist and police detective-composite sketch artist, who lived in Newark, New Jersey. He made sculptures from discarded found objects; he was also an illustrator, painter and muralist. Sampson once said,

“to firstly bring in some of the objects that I have collected over the years (IE, bones, and skulls) as well as object not normally thought of when creating a still life. Utilizing Charcoal, pencils, kneaded erasers, and paper, simple drawing materials. I will instruct on the simple short cuts used in setting up still lifes, ie. cross hatching, placement and the proper way to use and sharpen a pencil. Cones, spheres, shapes etc.”

Inspired by Kevin Sampson, friends and fellow Artists Cesar Melgar and Manuel Acevedo will be leading a special Drop In Drawing Workshop, this program is part of the Drawing Room initiative.
