About

“A Trip in the Country” brings together four artists who each look to the natural landscape for inspiration in their creative processes. It seems that as their starting point the landscape conveys a sense of mystery. Yet an even more unifying factor is that these artists decide not to present the landscape in a straightforward manner, but rather they manipulate either the space itself or the image. Diagram maticlines, illusions and fantasy are employed as visual strategies to engage the viewer. Perhaps these interventions grow out of a frustration with trying to capture an illusive experience. Indeed, all of the artists convey a sense of restless animation within their still images-many works depict a strong figurative element in the foreground juxtaposed to the landscape behind it.
